About Questr: The Central Nervous System for West Virginia Agriculture
Our Mission: Giving Family Farms the Power to "Punch Above Their Weight"
At Questr, we believe that a family farm in West Virginia should have access to the same level of operational intelligence as a corporate mega-farm—without needing a six-figure budget or a dedicated IT department.
We exist to solve a specific problem: The data you need to run your farm efficiently is often invisible. It’s hidden in the soil moisture levels of a distant field, the fluctuating voltage of an electric fence, or the ammonia levels in a poultry house. For too long, the only way to get that data was to drive there and check it yourself.
Questr changes that. We build Farm Sensor Networks that turn invisible data into actionable insights.
Our Story
Questr was founded by Dave Oberting with a simple philosophy: technology should work for you, not the other way around.
Our roots began in the world of small business and nonprofits in the DC area. We spent years helping organizations escape "spreadsheet hell" and automate manual processes so they could focus on growth. But we realized that the sector most in need of this efficiency wasn't in an office building—it was in the field.
We saw that West Virginia farmers were being left behind by the digital revolution. While West Virginia has excellent "Iron Dealers" (who know diesel and hydraulics) and trusted Co-ops (who know feed and seed), there was no "Competent Dealer" for data. Farmers were left to stitch together DIY solutions from Amazon or go without.
We pivoted Questr to fill that gap. We are the Systems Integrator for the Appalachian region.
The Missing Link: Why We Are Different
We don't just sell you a box of sensors and wish you luck. We provide the "Central Nervous System" for your operation.
In the human body, your hand doesn't just touch a hot stove; it sends a signal to the spine, which sends a signal to the brain, which tells you to pull away. Farms need that same reflex.
We build that system using a three-part stack:
Our Promise to the Region
We are proud to call West Virginia home. We understand the unique topography and the unique challenges of farming in Appalachia. We aren't a distant software company trying to disrupt your industry; we are a local partner trying to secure it.
Questr acts as a "Modular Integrator." We scour the global market for the best hardware—from Milesight’s industrial poultry sensors to Dragino’s rugged utility trackers—and we integrate them into a seamless system that you can manage from your phone.
We do the technical heavy lifting—networking, integration, and compliance logging—so you can get back to what you do best: farming.
Welcome to the future of the family farm.

In the human body, your hand doesn't just touch a hot stove; it sends a signal to the spine, which sends a signal to the brain, which tells you to pull away. Farms need that same reflex.
We build that system using a three-part stack:
- The Nerves (The Nodes): We deploy industrial-grade, battery-powered sensors that "listen" to your farm. Whether it's a LoRaWAN soil probe in the cornfield or an ultrasonic level sensor in a feed bin, these devices wake up, take a reading, and report back.
- The Spinal Cord (The Gateway): We install the network infrastructure—robust gateways that can catch a signal from 10 miles away, blasting through hills and trees where standard Wi-Fi fails.
- The Brain (The Dashboard): This is where Questr adds the most value. We turn raw numbers into clear language. instead of a text message saying "Volts: 2.1," you get an alert saying "Fence Shorted in Sector 4."
